Artisan, Joanna, is a part of our Artisan Program. She came to us after becoming blind later in life. She calls weaving "mindful meditation." Our unique program allows those who are low vision, no vision, and over 55 years old to come to a space that offers creativity, socialization, and support for a group who is otherwise underserved and overlooked.
On Thursday, August 8, 2019, the Country Club of Pittsfield (CCOP) will host two public events to benefit the Berkshires and beyond.
From 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., visitors are welcome to come to a sale of handwoven items made at the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center in Hartford, CT. Proceeds from this sale will benefit the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center’s Artisan Program. This program, for area residents who are low vision, no vision, or are over 55, is unique. No other programs consistently use hand¬weaving to address the social and occupational needs of the blind and seniors.
Pittsfield resident, Myra Kleinman, is a volunteer and member of the board at Weaving Center. “I’m so excited to once again share these special, one-of-a-kind pieces with my friends at the Country Club of Pittsfield. The exposure to a new audience of people who can enjoy what our artisans work so hard to create is so important. So, come find that perfect gift for your mother, friend, sister, coworker—or yourself, I won’t tell!”
In addition to hosting the trunk show, the Country Club of Pittsfield will host its annual Driving Out Hunger Men's and Women’s Classic to support local food banks. All golfers and guests should bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the cause. For more information about the tournament, contact the Country Club of Pittsfield’s golf shop at (413) 447-8504.
