Tea & Talk, “Jordan Marsh: New England’s Largest Store”
In the days before ordering from the internet there were outings to fabulous merchandise meccas under a single roof. Historian Anthony Sammarco will return us to the days of “Jordan Marsh: New England’s Largest Store.” Boston’s first such store, founded in 1851, it offered linen, silk, calicos, ribbons and more. By the late 19th century, it had expanded, eventually promoting personal service, easy credit, art exhibitions and musical performances. During the holiday season, there was The Enchanted Village of St. Nicholas and by the 1950s, branch stores in the suburbs.
Cost to attend $26 with an advance reservation and $32 the day of the event. Reservations are highly recommended as seating is limited. For reservations call us at 413-637-3206.
