Classical Principals of Modern Design with Thomas Jayne
to
The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home 2 Plunkett St, Lenox, Massachusetts 01240
In this illustrated presentation, award-winning designer Thomas Jayne will discuss his most recent book Classical Principles for Modern Design: Lessons from Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman’s The Decoration of Houses (Monacelli Press, 2018). Jayne’s presentation will focus on the influence Edith Wharton has had on the history of interior design. Drawing from his own work at Jayne Design Studio, Jayne will discuss the timelessness of the principles found in Wharton’s and Codman’s The Decoration of Houses, and how those principles both complement and diverge from his interpretation of classical interior design.
The lecture will be followed by a light reception and book signing session.
AD100 designer Thomas Jayne is founder and principal of Jayne Design Studio. His interiors reflect his passion and wide-ranging knowledge of classical traditions and his quest to further those traditions within contemporary design. Jayne holds a master’s degree in American decorative arts from Winterthur and completed fellowships at the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the J. Paul Getty Museum. He is the author of the highly successful The Finest Rooms in America: Fifty Influential Interiors from the Eighteenth Century to the Present and American Decoration: A Sense of Place, a monograph on the work of Jayne Design Studio.
