KNOW YOUR BUDGET.
Unless you are lucky enough to be working with an unlimited budget, it’s important to establish and maintain your bottom line. Knowing this ahead of time will allow you the freedom to look at various local venues. Keep on the lookout for hidden fees and tax! Everything has a price and the more information you can gather ahead of time, the better equipped you will be to make an informed decision.

The Berkshires offers four true seasons; winter, spring, summer and fall. There are many cultural activities that draw people to the Berkshires throughout the year such as Tanglewood, Barrington Stage, Mass MoCA and The Clark Art Institute to name just a few. Once you decide on the time of year you would like to get married, you’ll have a better understanding of what venues are available throughout each season.

Are you a classic and traditional bride? Are you into the rustic outdoors? Or do you gravitate towards a more modern/artistic style?
Depending on what your aesthetic is; you’ll have a surplus of venues to choose from. Do your homework and research the area through local sites. Use Pinterest to discover your unique style and design appeal and then read up on sites like Wedding Wire and The Knot for reviews and ratings on each venue.

DECIDE ON THE CEREMONY SITE.
Are you getting married in a religious house or having an outdoor ceremony? If you want to have an outdoor ceremony in the Berkshires, make sure you have a clear backup plan. Though the weather here is mildly temperate, it is also extremely unpredictable. Find venues that offer an alternative if the weather is uncooperative. Be on the lookout for venues that offer beautiful interior backgrounds in the event that you can’t take family and bridal portraits outside.

PICK YOUR VENUE.
Once you’ve decided on the budget, season, style and ceremony location, it’s time to finalize your venue. Make sure to research catering and other necessities in the final budget for each venue you’re considering. Does the venue offer a simplified wedding package? Does it offer catering? If not, ask around for local caterers and find out where you’ll get the best bang for your buck. Ask if the venue/caterer offers a tasting so that you both can make decisions regarding the menu well in advance of sending out your invitations.
Keep in mind; venues that do not offer catering/wait staff or day of coordinators are added expenses that may affect your bottom line. Brides often overlook this in booking venues. Read the fine print before signing your life away on any contracts. Understand fully what you’re responsible for and exactly what you’re getting for your big day.
