IS183 Art School of the Berkshires 13 Willard Hill Road, Stockbridge, Massachusetts 01262
In this class students will develop basic skills for working with encaustic as a paint material. Over the five week session, we will have fun learning techniques and properties of color through working with pigmented encaustic to create colorful, abstract artworks. We will explore processes of incorporating materials such as inks, pigment sticks, shellac, and alcohol in order to achieve lustrous color and depth. Students will learn how to develop thick textural effects in encaustic, as well as carving and incising into wax surfaces. Additionally, we will work with encaustic wax medium and colored papers to create collage techniques, incorporating drawings and found objects. This class is designed for all levels: no experience necessary.
* Anyone with odor sensitivities should be made aware of pigment and heated wax concerns.
